After seeing Ponyo I ran across this snippet of a review on Rotten Tomatoes:
Probably the most saccarine horror film I've seen in years.
It's most definitely a negative review. This is not to say I hated the movie, in fact I liked about 90% of it. But somehow either by dub or otherwise it points out its own flaws and in the end it just sort of fell flat. What caught me about the snippet though was how many times the movie as I watched traipsed happily into my nightmares. Mavolent waves, rising water, walls of water. Once everything had been flooded I felt fine, revelling in the absurd combination of dense Miyazaki trees and prehistoric fish. Again, as with the manic grin of Totoro everything was just so slightly creepy.

Yeah, all the water stuff is terrifying for me. Totally like a lot of my nightmares.
